I bought a new 2008 MKZ in June 2009. When I drive the MKZ from my driveway after a long steady rain, water drips into the cabin from the overhead eyeglass compartment. The water only drips in when the car is moving from a parked position. So, somewhere between the moonroof and the headliner, the water is pooling and then finding its way into the cabin when the car is moving. I reported the condition to the dealer. They had a tech re-seal the moonroof seams but the water leaked in again after another rainfall. I again took the car back to the dealer. This time, a tech poured water over the moonroof (for an unknown length of time since I was not there to witness it)and then moved the car back and forth to try to duplicate the problem. But, no water leaked into the cabin area. Once again, after a steady rainfall and moving the car from a parked position, water dripped into the cabin from the overhead eyeglass compartment. This time, the asst service mgr contacted a Ford engineer for guidance. However, the engineer did not have an immediate solution and is researching the problem for a remedy. I did find out, from the asst service mgr, that a similar defect has been found in the moonroof of the Ford Focus or Fusion. I am now awaiting word from the dealer to see if a solution has been found. I would also like to know what my recourse is if the problem cannot be "fixed." Since this is obviously a manufacturer's defect, and the car is still under manufacturer's warranty, can I demand a new car from the dealer? Who do I call or speak to in order to escalate my complaint?
