The 4.6L V8 installed by Lincoln is the best available for your car. If kept tuned and driven normally, you should get 28mph highway and for a 5500lb car, that is damn good. If you want 35mpg, by a Honda.

If i would want a Honda i would have bought one and to your coment the 4.6L V8 may have been the best engine in 1995 but today you can move a heavy car with a 2.2L 4cylinder CDI with a lower consumtion then a Smart Car on the High way, so and now you would ask yourself how i know that quite easy i have both a 2.2L CDI Mercedes E-class and a Smart so please stick to the facts and by the way Honda makes very very good Engines

Forgive me.
What is your mileage now that has you wanting an engine more efficient? I can get 21mpg in town and 28mpg on the highway. These cars have an ability to coast for miles; it still amazes me how early I can let off the gas sometimes when I see a red light blocks away. I regularly coast more than 2 miles through town albeit slightly downhill of course and I still have to brake for the left turn light.

Not a Problem
I get in Town 15mpg and on the High way 21mpg and i drive without speeding and coast a lot so thats a bit too much for my tast but the car also has 203188.37 Miles on it it has a view dents but i dont mind i like driving it so i want to keep it alive, i just planed ahead, i know the engine needs a rebuild or an other Engine, at the moment its fine to cruise but it also does not have the Power anymore wich it had befor so some of the Poneys under the Bonet are gone
I would also safe on taxes here in Canada if i swap the V8 for an V6 and the isurance would be a bit cheaper too so its Gas+Taxes+Insurance what made me think of an smaller Engine
Any help would be great
Thanks

I just cant think of a V6 (Ford or otherwise) that would be enough power without sacrificing gas mileage.

Duratec 30
The Ford Duratec 30 Engine in a Mercury Sable.
The 3.0 L Duratec 30 or Mazda AJ was introduced in 1996 as a replacement for the 3.8 L (~232 cu in) Essex V6 in the up-market versions of the Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable.
It has 2,967 cc (181 cu in) of displacement and produces between 200 hp (150 kW) and 240 hp (180 kW).
The same basic engine is used in the Jaguar S-Type, Lincoln LS, Mazda MPV, Mazda 6, Mondeo ST220 and many other Ford vehicles.
It is essentially a bored-out (to 89 mm) Duratec 25 and is built in Ford Motor Company's Cleveland Engine #2 plant in Cleveland, Ohio.
A slightly modified version for the Ford Five Hundred entered production at the Cleveland #1 plant in 2004.
There are two key versions of the Duratec 30:
DAMB - The Lincoln LS and Jaguar AJ30 versions have direct-acting mechanical bucket (DAMB) tappets.
Output is 232 hp (173 kW) at 6750 rpm with 220 lb·ft (298 N·m) of torque at 4500 rpm.
RFF - The Taurus/Sable/Escape version uses roller finger followers (RFF) instead and produces 201 hp (150 kW) at 5900 rpm with 207 lb·ft (281 N·m) of torque at 4400 rpm.
