Hi hippiee,

You already have the RCU if you have the factory radio - it is located in the trunk compartment mounted to the back of the rear seat frame on the passenger side. This is where all of the actual guts of the radio are located. The unit in the dash is simply a slave unit. I simply left the CD changer right where it was and unhooked the wiring harness at the RCU. This way, if you ever sell the car, you can remvoe the Ipod2car and hookup the changer again.

Installing the Ipod2car is just as I described it above. It comes with instructions. You need: Ipod2car and vehicle specific wiring harness. The vehicle specific wiring harness plugs into the RCU and the Ipod2car controller. Hookup switched 12 volts and ground (I tapped into one of the wires right at the RCU). Run the Ipod cord from the Ipod2car controller under carpet to your desired location. Plug in the Ipod, set the factory radio to CD and you are in business.

This doesn't sound like something that would work with the in-dash 6 disc cd navigation radio.

I purchased the FRDR/PC-POD2(5v) $89.96. with shipping it came to $96.95. I got it from ipod car pros. Unplug the cd player plug it in and run the cord to the front. Many of the features on the radio head unit will work too. You can FF, RW, change songs without even touching the ipod/iphone. Also one of the great features it charges the ipod/iphone. I had a new 6 disc player in my car and used it for a year before I purchased this unit. It was great on a trip because I have almost an endless amount of music. The last trip I took I had my nieces in the car and they could plug there ipods in and we could listen to their music and it would charge it back up when the battery was running low. Make sure it has the 5V I think that is what indicates it charges the ipod/iphone. Some of the older ones do not charge the ipod/iphone.

sly_guy38,

It might be possible for it to still work. Give them a call 206-801-0234. Look at the website. Ipod car pros. The FRDO3S-POD95V) might work for your car.

In most cases, no, but sometimes if you have the SAT option, there are some devices that will work.

All of the interfaces are compatible. The difference is in the 20 ft. ipod cord. Make sure you get the latest version otherwise it will not charge some of the later devices. It will still play music, it just wont charge.

Hippieelmo,
I'm new hear - just registered last week. I hesitated sending this post as I don't want to seem like the pushy new guy but here goes. I recently purchased a 97 Town Car in order to have a spare engine and tranny for the 97 Town car that I've been driving for years. I'm selling some parts on ebay in an effort to recoup some of the cash that I paid for the car. Earlier today I listed some parts including a working, factory 10 disc CD changer that works perfectly. Just thought that I'd throw it out there and hope that I haven't crossed any lines as this is the first time that I've participated in any forum.

Hi TFG,

Certainly not out of line to help out another member. You might try posting in the classifieds section also.
