I need to replace the MLPS on my 94 town car tranny. Anyone have a pic or diagram as to where it is located? Also is it hard to get to or anything like that? Its also called a nuetral safety switch.

Hi aerigan,
The MLPS will be located on the side of the transmission. You are going to need to have the car on a lift, jackstands or ramps in order to have enough room to get underneath and work on it. Do you have a factory service manual? If not, I would suggest getting oen and following the procedure on how to R&R. It's not as simple as just pulling the old one off and putting the new one on. It needs to be positioned correctly. Good luck!

well i bought a new one from oreilleys and installed it this morning. All was good till i road tested and car will not shift into 3rd or OD. Car starts in 1st then shifts to 2nd and thats it. I aligned the nuetral marks on the mlps as stated in the instructions that came with it and made sure car was in nuetral when i removed the part and replaced it too. Im not sure what could be wrong????? The reason i replaced was because car kept shifting into nuetral at highway speeds. Was told by dealership that tranny is fine and only found out about the mlps by this forum and it sounded like the problem.

well after looking at the instructions on installation.....maybe i have to use the new plug and grommet that came with it....i didnt use it and plugged the harness directly into the new safety switch. I saw that in the box was a new red plug and it looks like you have to pull each wire out of old harness plug and route them into this new red one....and they go into different spots??? Anyway its like a 7 pin to an 8 pin or something. The part is a BWD brand and the part number is S9190. Looks like the wires need to go to all new positions for some damn reason. Such as pin 1 on old is blank and on the new one pin 8 will be blank and so on....ugh!

Could be that's how BWD is getting around a patent??

One reason I buy Ford parts. Might cost you a little more money, but costs you less time and aggravation.

I looked at the motor craft part and it said same thing in instructions and cost 50 bucks more. I put old one back on and all gears right as rain. Hell i dont know what to do now? I looked and the original harness has 6 wires going in and out but the instructions on the motorcraft part and the one i bought both show 7 wires with a blank pin 8. I might just have to live with it going into nuetral every now and then while driving.
