My 98 Mark 8 shifts great when first cold. Within approx. a mile or so,2/3 shift becomes slow and lazy then shifts into OD right away. It will downshift fine. The fluid is full with no burnt smell.
Any ideas. There is 77000 miles on the car. I talked with the last owner and he told me he had it changed at about 33000 miles.
Thanks,
Lee

Hi Lee,

You may be due for a fluid change again. I have my transmission fluid changed every 30k. Don't buy the line of BS Ford feeds you about never needing to change it. Rather than dropping the pan, have a flush done as this is the only way you can thoroughly get all of the old fluid out. These 4R70Ws are touchy when it comes to fluid. If the fluid gets old, they start acting weird.
